Project report
Gary's roof was never going to take the number of panels he wanted. His newly built outbuilding was, so that is where the array went.
Nine AIKO all black panels sit on the flat roof on a Van der Valk mounting system, 4.41 kWp in total. High output panels were the way to get the most out of the space that was there.
Inside is a 17.5 kWh Sigenergy SigenStor battery across two modules, paired with an 8kW hybrid inverter. Gary plans to move onto an Octopus Go tariff, so he can charge the batteries overnight when electricity is cheap and use that stored energy through the day when it is not.
He also took the Sigenergy HomePro Backup Gateway, which keeps the house running if the grid goes down, and a 7kW Sigenergy EV charger. Solar, storage, backup and car charging all on one system.
What made this one go so smoothly was Gary himself. Building work was already underway, so we planned the cable routes with him in advance, supplied the cabling, and he arranged for it to be laid before our team arrived.
That forward planning paid off. The whole installation was finished in a single day and the job is as tidy as anything we have done. A good example of what happens when the customer and the installers work it out together from the start.
Every year, Gary offsets the carbon equivalent of taking four flights to Madrid.
