Project report
Jimmy's Farm is a high energy use commercial site near Ipswich, with annual electricity consumption of around 800,000 kWh. With demand on that scale running right through the day, the site was an obvious candidate for rooftop solar. Our goal was to get as much generation as possible onto roof space that was already there.
The system was designed across multiple buildings, roof areas and orientations, which is why we specified SolarEdge. Module level optimisation means a shaded or awkwardly oriented panel does not drag down the rest of its string, and module level monitoring gives the site detailed visibility of how each array is performing. We installed 160 Eurener 580W N-type TOPCon panels on a K2 MiniRail mounting system.
The system is forecast to generate around 69,429 kWh a year. Because the site's daytime demand is so substantial, almost all of that is used on site rather than exported, which is where the value sits. That is forecast to be worth around £27,772 in the first year, with a payback of about five years and an annual carbon reduction of around 14.4 tonnes.
Every year, Jimmy's Farm offsets the carbon equivalent of taking 74 flights to Madrid.
